At first Netflix said, come write for us. We’ll save your cancelled shows and write about whatever niche story you want. Our algorithm says people will watch it!

Then a few years later they said, regardless of our promises or contract obligations we are cancelling shows after two seasons without telling anyone. Turns out no matter how loved a show is, we get less subscriptions after the second season.

How many subscriptions did we bring you? Netflix won’t say.

So writers started writing two season shows. Just give us two seasons, Netflix. Like you promised.

Then Netflix said, oops sorry! Turns out your show didn’t premiere at #1 and the views in the first day weren’t what we wanted so we’re cancelling your second season.

What were the numbers? How many people watched our show? Netflix doesn’t say.

Then, they did something extra special. They started taking shows and splitting their first season into two halves. Inside Job was not two seasons. It was one season split in half.

Oops! Sorry! The second half of your first season didn’t do as well as the first half, so now your show is cancelled!

Why? How many people? How much money? These companies are making cash hand over fist and they refuse to tell people the truth: people loved your show. Loved it. But some corpo exec wanted an infinite money making machine. Do you know how long shows are in production for before you watch them? Years. Like, 5+, even 10+ years. And Netflix gives it less than a week before they decide whether you’re getting cancelled.

Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me.

I know there is a lot of discourse (tm) around this right now but listen to me

sometimes you do just have to lie to children.

kaity--did

If, when my toddler is, you know, toddling around saying “mama? Big ball?”

If I were lean down and say “unfortunately the big beach ball for some reason fills you with such an unadulterated rage that is beyond human comprehension that you scream until you pass out, so mama had to remove the beach ball from the premises until you can better regulate your emotions” she would simply stare at me like I had 3 heads full of equal betrayal.

So, for now, instead “big ball went night night!”

kaity--did

Please understand when I say “removed the ball from the premises” I mean I popped it in a fit of exhausted confusion. I murdered the beach ball.

See I’ve lied to you all too and it was better this way.

justdoitukk for your blocklist. Likely will delete their blog when I post it but this is just one of the alternate accounts my annoying stalker has.

They usually contact me on anon but since I have it off they once more decided to show themselves and still insisting I’m their girlfriend even though I’m not dating them and have no romantic interest in them at all.

This person doesn’t understand personal boundaries and has already made me uncomfortable acting like this when I’ve already told them several times to please leave me alone. They use a VPN to get around blocks and also will make multiple accounts to harass me so I can’t really do much to keep them away besides post about any alt accounts they pop up with.

They generally delete these once I post them but just be aware they are still here.

Fake check scam

A fake check scam is when someone asks you if you take checks for donations/payments and will then send you an image of a check and tell you to print it out and take a picture of it using your chosen bank application on your mobile device. However, this is not a real check and cashing it isn’t scamming the scammer because that’s not how it works.

In actuality, cashing the check is going to make you lose money once it’s found out to be a fake check. This means you are going to be out of the money the sender claimed you would get. It’s unfortunately a scam that has started happening on tumblr sent by accounts who browse the mutual aid/GoFundMe tags and messages anyone who has their DMs open.

These accounts will generally be empty, or reblog your post in order to gain your trust or to look legitimate. If someone wants to support you or help you, they will not want to give you a check. This scam does not end with you gaining money. Any money you got from the check will be lost. Never cash checks from suspicious accounts who message you.

Also report any accounts who are trying this scam and warn anyone who may fall for them. The scammers are very numerous and don’t like it when you explain the scam to them because they already know what it is and they’ll insist they aren’t a scammer and deny everything you’ll be explaining to them.

This post is tagged for visibility as scammers are known to browse the tags for people to message. Feel free to share this post if you’d like or check my pinned post for other scam explanations!

It's worth noting that people do this kind of overpayment scam with everything from job offers to Craigslist sales:

"Oh, just take a picture of this check and give me some of the money and keep the rest!"

Yeah no, if they wanted to pay you like that they'd mail you the real thing.

And then the smart thing to do would be to wait a few days for the check to clear first before moving any further.

-----

"Job offers; how does that work?" you say.

Glad you asked. What the scammer will typically have you do is "buy goods" from a specific supplier, but what you don't know is that the "supplier" is just the scammer in disguise. So you Venmo/Paypal/otherwise electronically transfer the money to the "supplier" for things you allegedly need to start the new job.

And then you never get the stuff and the person who offered you the new "job" is conveniently unreachable.
